Congratulations to our PTA Spotlight Volunteer for September, Beth Satterfield.
Beth has been volunteering her time at WES since 2006. She began with helping in her oldest child’s classroom doing Book-A-Bite and Learning Experiences. She is the current Chairperson of the Community Day Committee, and also our new Editor of the Explorer Express.
Beth explains how she came to the decision to take over the newsletter, and also comments on her overall experience as a volunteer at WES: “At the end of last year there was a hunt on for people to help with the newsletter, since both of the previous editors had children in fifth grade and were graduating. I really had enjoyed getting the Explorer Express - it kept me updated and provided a link to the school. I couldn't stand to see it discontinued, and when Melanie Farrell agreed to share the job, we decided to go for it! I hope that the EE does for others what has done for me. It has helped me get involved and feel like I'm a part of the Weatherstone family. When I began coming to things like Dining for Dollars and Family Nights, I realized how much fun those things are AND that they make money for important PTA programs. I felt like I had a stake in my children's education. Also, with volunteering in the classroom, you get to know a little bit about what your child is experiencing at school. I agreed to help with Community Helper Day when I saw how much the kids loved it - and how much I learned from the helpers!”
Beth has 3 children at WES, Benton in third grade, Shaw in second grade, and Carter in Kindergarten. She feels that volunteering for Weatherstone makes her feel like she’s making a difference in the lives of her children, and helping make a great school even better!
Thanks again, Beth! We truly appreciate your all of your hard work. For the month of October, Beth will have use of the "PTA Volunteer" parking spot. Please help us honor her by leaving the space available.
